Many animal species, especially those that come from arid environments, are accustomed to the practice of sand bathing. Sand grains penetrate deep into the fur and absorb excess oily skin secretions and moisture on their surface. The structure of the grains is such that just as they easily penetrate the hair, they also easily fall out of the hair when ruffling and shaking, leaving the hair clean. Many species of small mammals use sand for bathing, in particular chinchillas, gerbils, degu, hamsters and pygmy hedgehogs. The frequency of bathing depends on the species and the preferences of individual individuals. Animals are usually given bathing at a frequency ranging from once a day to once a week.



How to use:

Select a sand bath container according to the size of the animal. It must be able to turn and roll freely in the dish - therefore the size of the dish should be larger than the size of the animal. Pour sand into the bottom to create a 2-3 cm layer. Place the container with sand at the bottom of the cage for about 10 - 15 minutes. Animals are reluctant to use the same sand several times, so before each bath the container should be filled with fresh sand.
